AquaGard™ (formerly known as DuraSheen™) is a furniture quality, acrylic material formulated for use as a clear topcoat to increase the durability of a decorative finish or artwork. AquaGard™ flows well and is an excellent barrier coat when applied with care. This is the recommended final coat for most finishes, but not table top applications.

  • Thin with up to 20% with water for spray applications.
  • Use to seal low quality latex paint prior to glazing.
  • Use as a concrete sealer or as a clear topcoat over decoratively finished concrete.
  • On tabletops, floors or other high traffic areas always apply a final coat of AquaThane™ over AquaGard™ for added durability.
  • When using AquaGard™ Satin or Dull over dark colors, cloudiness or frosting may result.
  • AquaGard™ is rated for interior application, however if top coated with AquaThane™ or C500™, it can be applied on exterior applications
  • Make sure that the work surface is dry and clean of dust or debris.
  • Apply 2 thin coats of AquaGard™ by brush, roller or spray unit.
  • Because AquaGard™ contains a co-solvents, it should be applied with caution over new or sensitive art and color work. Do not overwork this material. Softening of the previous layer can result, pulling at the color and the pattern.
  • A thin coat of ColorSeal™ should be applied prior to the application of AquaGard™ especially if the disruption of previous layers is a concern.
  • Allow the final coat of AquaGard™ to cure for 72 hours prior to polishing or rubbing smooth with fine steel wool or polishing compounds.
