Paramount’s Original Glue has been a woodworking standard for many years and is used in the production of fine furniture. It may be used on wood, leather, cloth, paper, ivory, marble, glass, rubber, plastics and metal. Original glue is also commonly used to create a painted crackle finish.

- The earliest you can apply a top coat is after the glue loses its shine and begins to look dull.
Basic Application
- For use in Crackle Finishing:
- Apply a base coat of the color you want to show through the cracks, let dry thoroughly.
- Apply the paramount glue at full strength for larger cracks or thin down with water for finer cracks.
- If the glue and subsequent top coat are brushed in a linear fashion, the cracking effect will also be linear. If the glue and top coat are stippled the cracks will be more circular and random.
- Allow glue to dry at least 45 min and ideally for up to eight hours.
- Once, glue has lost its shine, apply the top coat. (This must be a water based material, and can be latexed vinyl acrylic, acrylic, casein or other based material.)
- Apply the paint without working it too hard. Allow to dry thoroughly, the top coat will crack and allow the base color to show through.
- Apply aging glazes if desired. These can be rubbed into the cracks with a clean cloth, spattered on or sprayed. Seal the entire surface with a varnish or lacquer.
