SandStone™ is a water-based decorative material that incorporates special sand-like particles without the abrasive quality of natural sand. Formulated to create a sandy texture on walls and furniture, it is also used as a basecoat in the production of faux marble and stone. SandStone™ can be scraped to bring out the color of the embedded stone particles hidden within the product or sanded to produce a smooth sandstone finish.

Product Tips
- Sandstone™ can be tinted with FauxCrème Color™.
- For exterior applications, topcoat with AquaThane™.
- To create a smooth, marble-like finish, apply thin coats of tinted Venetian Gem®. One the material has dried, scrape (using a stainless steel trowel) or dry sand (using 400- to 1200-grit sandpaper). This will shine the Venetian Gem® and expose the embedded sand particles creating an interesting texture.
- For spray applications, thin with up to 25% water and use a large fluid cap of at least 100 thousandths diameter in order to prevent clogging.
Basic Application
- Make sure that the surface is well sealed by applying two coats of SetCoat® or SetCoat® Clear. Allow to dry thoroughly.
- Apply the first thin coat of Sandstone™ using a brush, roller, or spray unit. Do not apply a thick coat—it may crack.
- Let material dry a minimum of 4 hours. At this time, check the bond with the substrate before proceeding. Further drying time may be needed depending on work area conditions.
- Apply 1 to 2 more layers allowing each layer to fully dry before applying another coat.
- Let the entire finish dry a minimum of 24 hours. Then, sand smooth using 120-grit sandpaper to create a beautiful stone-like finish.
- If desired, apply a color glaze to further enhance the stone effect.
